The under stern rudder gives more positive steering with more precise control when wash hanging and is by far the most popular choice. Our rudders use a larger diameter stem than most and use an easily removable, and incredibly reliable, rudder wheel. This provides a really smooth action with minimal risk of failure during a race.
This type of rudder is best for use in deep water conditions as grounding on the bottom or on and obstacle can cause damage to the rudder, which will usually cause it to bend or chip, but there is a chance of damage to the boat itself.
